Your Questions, Answered
Everything you need to know about virtual doula support with VirtualBirthCo.
About Virtual Support
What exactly does a virtual doula do?
A virtual doula provides the same core support as an in-person doula — education, emotional preparation, birth planning, labor guidance, and postpartum support — all through video calls, phone calls, and messaging. The majority of a doula’s value comes from the knowledge, preparation, and ongoing relationship, which translates powerfully to virtual support.
Is virtual doula support as effective as in-person?
Yes. The core value of doula support — education, emotional preparation, personalized guidance, and ongoing availability — works exceptionally well in a virtual format. You’ll be more prepared and confident than the vast majority of women walking into their birth. Many women actually prefer virtual support because it fits their schedule, feels more private, and provides continuous access rather than just labor-day presence.
What technology do I need?
Just a phone or computer with internet access. We use standard video calls, text messaging, and phone calls. No special apps or equipment required.
I already have an OB or midwife. Do I still need a doula?
Absolutely. Your medical provider focuses on the clinical aspects of your pregnancy and typically sees you for 15-minute appointments. A doula fills the enormous gap between those visits with continuous education, emotional support, birth planning, and personalized guidance. We work alongside your medical team, not in place of it.
How does on-call labor support work virtually?
When you’re in active labor, you or your partner can reach me by phone or text. I’ll provide real-time guidance — comfort measures, position suggestions, emotional support, help communicating with your medical team, and encouragement. Many partners find this especially valuable because they feel more confident knowing an expert is just a call away.
Packages & Pricing
What’s included in each package?
Each package includes a different level of support, from birth prep coaching ($297) to our comprehensive Premium Virtual Doula experience ($997). All packages include personalized video sessions, birth planning, and ongoing support. Visit our Packages page for a detailed comparison of everything included at each level.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes, we can discuss payment plan options during your free consultation. We believe every woman deserves quality birth support and want to make it as accessible as possible.
Can I upgrade my package later?
Yes. If you start with Birth Prep Coaching and decide you want more comprehensive support, you can upgrade to a higher-tier package. We’ll credit what you’ve already paid toward the new package.
What is your refund policy?
If we haven’t begun our prenatal sessions, you can receive a full refund. Once sessions have started, we don’t offer refunds, but we can discuss adjusting your package if your needs change. We’re always transparent and fair.
About Dallas
What are your qualifications?
I have over 10 years of training and experience, including 600+ hours of academic study, a two-year apprenticeship with an elder birth keeper, Certified Monitrice with Advanced Studies from The Matrona, Certified Holistic Birth Doula with Advanced Studies, DONA Birth Doula Training, and Placenta Encapsulation certification. I’ve supported families at home, in hospitals, and virtually.
Do you support both hospital and home births?
Yes. I support women birthing wherever they feel safest and most comfortable — hospital, birth center, or home. My approach is rooted in physiological birth education while respecting and working within whatever birth setting you choose.
What if I’m planning a VBAC?
I have personal experience with VBAC (two successful home VBACs) and extensive training in supporting VBAC families. I can help you navigate the unique considerations, build confidence, and create a birth plan that honors your goals while addressing any concerns.
Getting Started
When should I start working with a doula?
Ideally, start during your second or early third trimester to get the full benefit of prenatal education and birth planning. However, it’s never too late — even a single session close to your due date can dramatically improve your confidence and preparation.
What happens during the free consultation?
It’s a relaxed, no-pressure 15-minute video call. We’ll talk about where you are in your pregnancy journey, what kind of support you’re looking for, and whether we’re a great fit. You’ll get a feel for how I work, and I’ll recommend the best package for your situation.
